Symbian-powered Samsung smartphone

Just when we talked about that latest unofficial firmware update for the Samsung i8910 HD, another firmware has been released (version HX7). This time, QT 4.6.2 Symbian^3 libraries are included in the mix, making us think the Nokia N8 won’t be the first Symbian^3 device available on the market. To be fair, it’s not just Qt that’s included with the upcoming version of Symbian OS, but it has always been pointed as one of its key features.

Of course, some of the known bugs have been fixed meaning the phone should be more stable and faster after the update.

As usual, we advise you to backup all your data prior to updating. This time it’s even more serious as we’re talking about the unofficial firmware release that will definitely wipe out all of your contacts. If you’re done with that, there’s no reason to wait – I doubt Samsung will release the official i8910 HD firmware update that can come close to what the hackers have made…

so, if one installs this on the phone, how do you revert to previous firmwares should you have any problems?

Given that Samsung stopped support for Symbian, they should release our omap drivers so people can put android on this phone…
