The HTC Desire is coming soon to U.S. Cellular, and it may very well be packing Android 2.2 (better known as Froyo), as Vodafone UK’s version of the Desire is getting an over the air firmware updated next Monday. Although there’s no promise that such an update would cross the pond, Android 2.2 features portable hotspot functions, updated camera and album user interface, and a couple of other improvements. We’re still waiting on a 2.2 update for the Droid Incredible and pretty much everything else, but Froyo is currently available on the Nexus One (a close relative of the Desire), the EVO 4G, Droid, and Droid 2.

The Desire itself is a fine-looking device, packing a 3.7″ AMOLED WVGA display, 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, and 3G. If you’re in the UK and thinking of nabbing one now that it’s getting Android 2.2, you can find the HTC Desire in Vodafone’s online store.

I don’t understand why Verizon is taking so long to give the Droid Incredible owners the 2.2 update? EVO 4G has it, the new Droid 2 and the original Droid have it, the Incredible is so much better than all those phones and still nothing. What makes me laugh is that the EVO 4G runs the same sense UI as the the Incredible.

    What’s the holdup?

Well, the Evo has a 4.3″ screen. That obviously makes it better. Determined that my friends Evo after getting the 2.2 update is STILL slower than my Inc when browsing, even cached pages. U can’t blame than on Sprint’s painfully slow 3G. (that’s right, even in the metroplex, 4G is pretty spotty) He can’t use the wimax radio most of the time. But I guess waiting for an improvement to an already “incredible” (sorry, couldn’t help myself) is not such a bad situation to be in. You could have already gotten an update and still have a laggy phone.
