Rumor: Nokia C6-01: Symbian^3, 8 megapixel camera, old fashioned design

Nokia’s new naming scheme initially started out as a welcome change from the old cryptic 4 digit product codes now replaced by a letter followed by a number, but things quickly have gone to hell in a handbasket with devices such as the C1-00, C1-01, C1-02, and now a leaked Symbian^3 handset called the C6-01.

Unlike the original C6, which runs Symbian^1, has a QWERTY keyboard, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, and everything else you’d expect from a smartphone released in 2010, the C6-01 has an 8 megapixel camera, no QWERTY keyboard, runs Nokia’s latest Symbian^3 operating system and … that’s it. Wish I could tell you more such as the launch date and retail price, but we just don’t know.

Initially the C6-01 got leaked on Nokia’s Dutch site, accidentally labeled the C6. Now it’s made an appearance again via Mobile Geeks Inc. and they know exactly what I just told you above. Note that Nokia is holding a massive press event in a couple weeks in London. We’ll likely hear about this device then, along with several other surprises, hopefully the Nokia N9 is among them.

What do you think of this? How exactly is it different than the C7 that we recently saw leaked? It uses an older design, it’s got the exact same specifications, yet it’s somehow supposed to be differentiated enough to warrant existing in the first place. Shit like this pisses me off to no end. I understand the need to offer a wide product portfolio, and to serve a huge variety of customers, but the C6-01 doesn’t do anything the C7 already does, and both devices have already leaked. One is made out of metal, one is made out of plastic, let’s price them within 50 EUR of each other and let the market decide. Brilliant tactic. Totally worth the creation of two separate product teams, slaving over a hot PowerPoint, working day and night to bring these device out to market.

I don’t get why pretty much every post you make nowadays about Nokia related news has to be so negative. This site is more like a news site than a blog IMHO, and I don’t see other writers pushing the propaganda like you

When did having options to choose from become a negative thing? And how long did you think having 4 different letters followed by 1 digit number last for covering product portfolio sized like Nokias? Not for long I think, as 0 and 4 are not even used, 32 products or so… that’s like a year (give or take) if no more digits are used
