Intel: We will embrace LTE when it becomes a standard

Intel did spend tons and tons of cash convincing the world WiMax is the next destination in the evolution of mobile communications. Despite the fact WiMAX networks are live today, more and more mobile operators are committing to LTE, which is pushed by the GSMA and its member companies.

So what will Intel do about it? If you’ve watched videos featuring the company’s CEO Paul Otellini, you know they will eventually join the “LTE wave.” And we have another confirmation of that claim, coming from the company’s South Asia Managing Director (Sales and Marketing) R Sivakumar. He said: “There is no debate between WiMax and LTE adoption. It is the decision that has to be taken by service providers and business decisions are not taken on the basis of technology. We will take up LTE when it becomes a standard.”

Mr. Sivakumar repeated that “WiMax is here and it is available now and operators looking at faster return on investments will choose it,” but also added that when LTE becomes a standard, Intel will integrate it in its platform…
