Windows Phone 7 Advertisement

Microsoft supposedly dropped $500 million into advertising for its upcoming Windows Phone 7 launch and the first fruits of this investment has made its official debut. Microsoft’s first WP7 advertisement launched publicly as a trailer before the Secret Cinema screening of the upcoming Lawrence of Arabia movie. While not as freaky as Palm’s failed attempt at advertising its Pre handset, this trailer showcases little of the phone and only capitalizes on the hype surrounding this movie.

In your opinion, is this an effective first attempt at raising public awareness of Windows Phone or is it a major disappointment? Though I prefer more substance in an advertisement, I am willing to give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt and look forward to their second commercial.

wow $500 million there gonna spend to get the word out of there phone, thats a lot of money, if they are spending that just on ads i hope they put that much in there R&D because other than creating the OS for the phone its not like they had to develop the actual phone just select the parts they would want from manufacturer

That was horrible. There was nothing exciting about it. They hardly tried!! I mean, there are other ways of creating simple advertisements and still being effective enough to grab people’s attention. This is not even close!
Sorry Microsoft, but you’re going to have try a lot harder!!

apple has spend much more and so have verizon on google devices. seriously matthew you’re question a company that was built around producing OS’s on r&d? they made billions on windows mobile and now you question them?

    WOW!

that was a smart start for MS, they just got everyone’s attention in the theator. when they go home they will run to the site and see what’s going on. the site offers alot of info that cannot be put into one commercial.

use the brain son and stop hatin MS.

Great start for MS! Great way to pique curiosity! I can’t wait to trade up my productive touch pro 2 for the next great OS made for everything in my life.

This commercial just shows what the phone looks and it’s name microsoft had better start showing people using the phones Tile user interface and it’s great multi touch features and the Tellme voice command control over the phone and it’s Xbox games so people know what the phone has going for it. a lot of People don’t go to great web sites lije intomobile or ZDNET or CNET or engadget. or other sites that give reviews on smart phones. I will buy a windows phone 7 because I like it’s features and in about a year I expect Microsoft to give over the web software
updates that add mutitasking and cut and past plus a flash player ap. I am more patient with Microsoft than 9 out of 10 people would be because I know the y have no choice but improve this phone to stay in the game and they will do that

this is a commercial for a movie it really doesn’t have anything to do with the phone it only makes sense to people in the region where the movie is coming out and who have seen the movie still have no idea why they put the phone in there
