Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, gave us some pretty key details about Android and the smartphone space during his keynote speech at IFA, where we also saw the Android powered Samsung Galaxy Tab. During his speech, Schmidt pointed out new features in Android and that over 200,000 devices were being activated daily. The Google CEO also noted that in the future, the Internet will be delivering content to four billion people, which is approximately two-thirds of the planet’s population, and it won’t just be for the “elite.”
From the press release:
“That echoed the 1930 keynote by Albert Einstein,” said Jens Heithecker, executive director of IFA. “Einstein was talking about radio, the new technology of the time. He said ‘technology enables communication and communication connects people.’
“Google today connects people to the Internet and opens the world in the same way radio did 80 years ago. And IFA as a platform defines the technologies and innovations of the future that will move our industry forward,” said Heithecker.
Perhaps drawing the parallels with Einstein might be a little extreme, but the message is the same in that a new wave of technology is enabling people to do more and connect in ways that were previously difficult or impossible.
