Cricket recently launched the Huawei-made Cricket CROSSWAVE, which is a MiFi-like portable hotspot device. Available for $149.99 in Cricket branded retail stores, select dealers and Cricket’s website – the dual-mode (EVDO/WiFi) CROSSWAVE allows users to connect with up to three devices at the same time and is compatible with most computers, tablets and smartphones that support WiFi 802.11b/g.

As expected, the carrier is pairing the device with its unlimited, all-inclusive prepaid broadband service plans, offering download speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps.

In terms of the size, the CROSSWAVE is pretty compact device at just under 4-inches in height, less than a half-inch thick and weighing less than three ounces. As for the battery life, expect up to 3 hours of active use and/or 90 hours of standby time.

Commenting on the new device launch, Cricket‘s VP and general manager of devices Matt Stoiber said: “The CROSSWAVE is an incredibly convenient way for on-the-go consumers to bring Cricket’s reliable, no-contract 3G connectivity to a whole new ecosystem of devices, anywhere, at any time. This convenient mobile hotspot also complements our new, true rate data plans, providing our customers with the speed and reliability they want with no overage charges or hidden fees.”
