HTC Aria Android Phone for AT&T

We haven’t heard much news about the HTC Aria in quite a while, but it’s better late than never, right? Looks like the Android 2.2 update has leaked for the tiny handset and it is available to flash right now!

The leak was found earlier this week and since then, it has been packaged up into a flashable ROM for Aria owners who just can’t wait for the official update to hit their handsets. We haven’t gotten to test this out – it does seem like an official build – but we’d be surprised if it was the final one. Usually when these leaks go around, it’s most likely anunfinished build that’s not ready for prime time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not usable.

Some are saying that the ROM runs great so far, where other say it suffers from Android Market and WiFi issues. It seems that the ROM itself is Asian-based and the Market issue is found in many of the ROMs. Others have noted that the option to put applications on the SD card is missing as well.

While digging through the XDA forum, it does seem like some have figured out a way to fix the Market issue, but it requires using ADB to pull a system file, edit it, and then push it back. If you’re new to the Android ROM/modding game, you may not want to chance it.

Still, this leak means that the official build is indeed on its way to Ariaowners and the update could be hitting handsets relatively soon at that. Unless you’re feeling rather adventurous, we’d suggest you hold off flashing this ROM.

But, if you just can’t wait to see what the Froyo’d Sense UI brings to your Aria, head over to the XDA thread to see if you’re up to the challenge.

Anyone giving this one a try? If you choose to flash this ROM, leave a comment below telling us how it’s running so far for you.

Just flashed the 2.2 ROM. Running 936 in Quadrant now. The new compiler is great. Phone has Root built in. Great ROM. Wish they old release it in the US.

I couldn’t get it to flash. First, my Aria expected the zip file to be named ‘update.zip’. Once I changed the name of the zip file, it still wouldn’t update. Kept getting ‘Signature Verification Failed’. So I was stuck with a Aria that I had wiped and restored to factory settings. Good thing I backed up my apps first using Astro. No, wait – the Aria doesn’t allow installing of apps from ANYTHING other than the app store. So I was stuck having to download my apps all over again from the app store.
What an absolute waste of time this was :(
