Some digging around the webOS 2.0 source code have revealed a bevvy of codenames we hadn’t heard before: Stingray, Mantaray, Broadway, and Windsor. There is also reference to A6 hardware at some point, but the details on that are still hazy. Here’s the code:
if ((machineType.contentEquals(“broadway”)) ||
(machineType.contentEquals(“windsor”)) ||
(machineType.contentEquals(“mantaray”)) ||
(machineType.contentEquals(“stingray”)) ||
(machineType.contentEquals(“roadrunner”)))
{ this.flasherLogger.logPrintln(“temporarily not
restoring logs for newer devices”);
As nice as these references are, that’s only four of the rumoured five to six device Palm and HP supposedly have in the pipeline, which will likely span the gamut of printers and tablets to smartphones in new form factors. The only codename that we’re remotely sure about is the Broadway, which will likely be an incremental upgrade on the Pixi Plus, not unlike the Pre 2. As for the others… Well, let your imagination out for a jog on those. Now that HP is taking care of Palm, expectations are just a wee bit higher for future webOS devices, so what form factors and features would you like to see in the next batch of Palm phones?
