Windows Phone Supplies are “Tight” Says Microsoft

The first batch of Windows phones to hit the market is a small one says Microsoft, though most stores should still have at least a few in stock. Spot checks at T-Mobile and AT&T stores around Boston revealed a consistent, if limited supply of Windows phones. Initial sales shouldn’t be too strenuous on retail channels, but I wouldn’t take low stock and low demand as a complete death sentence for the platform.

If Windows Phone does get big, it will be over the long haul, as Microsoft has admitted that it will take around five years for the OS to be where they want it to be. That may sound sketchy to the impatient, but just look what they did with the Xbox. Version 1.0 was this big, black monstrosity that could blot out the sun with its size, but after a few years, it squeezed ahead of PlayStation, and though Nintendo is still mostly in the lead in sales, Xbox definitely wins when it comes to the online experience. Now, replace PlayStation with RIM, and Nintendo with Android, and you’ve got a picture of what could happen with Windows Phone over the next couple of years.

For those of you that have been hunting down a Windows phone, have you had any trouble?
