GSMA launched the Mobile Energy Efficiency (MEE) Network Benchmarking Service with the idea to provide a benchmark measurement of network energy efficiency and help operators lower their energy costs and carbon footprint.
Created in cooperation with China Mobile, Telefónica and Telenor – MEE will quantify cost and CO2 savings for operators, promote a consistent methodology for benchmarking network energy efficiency along with common KPIs, collate industry data and benchmark outputs, and coordinate across the industry and with regulatory stakeholders to make the methodology adopted as a global standard.
The MEE methodology has been devised to adjust energy Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for factors outside an operator’s control in order to make different networks comparable. For this reason, the methodology focuses on operational energy consumption and not on other lifecycle energy measures such as embedded energy in equipment. GSMA will be comparing mobile network energy consumption per mobile connection, cell site, unit of mobile traffic and per unit of mobile revenue…
