Telefonica and Orange are planning to integrate their developer offerings with the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) initiative. Both companies said that developers would be able to access WAC content via their respective developer platforms as soon as the initiative becomes fully commercialized next year.

Telefónica Europe’s Javier Lorente praised WAC saying that it is “happening at a faster-than-expected pace,” and that Telefonica was “actively involved” in driving the concept forward. He went on talking about the operator’s own portal (Movistar Developer Platform) and plans to roll it out across all of Telefonica’s markets. However, Javier also pointed out that some operator-specific APIs will take time to be WAC compliant, leaving it up to developer to decide whether it wants to work with the operator or via WAC.

Orange’s Jean-Luc Ottensen had similar comments to share, adding that they are working to integrate its Orange Partner Connect portal with WAC. “We will find a way to make all content from WAC available through Orange Partner Connect [in 2011],” Ottensen said.

Both operators pledged commitment to their own-branded apps storefronts…
