Samsung has had a huge hit with the Galaxy S series of smartphones. The Android device has sold incredibly well in the U.S. and in South Korea. In just about three months, a million Galaxy S smartphones were sold in South Korea, making it the fastest selling phone in that market. Ever. In the U.S., Samsung has been doing especially well with a variant of the Android device available on every single major carrier: Epic 4G for Sprint, Vibrant for T-Mobile, Fascinate for Verizon and the Captivate on AT&T.
Samsung had set up the very lofty goal of selling 10 million units, presumably by the year’s end, this summer–and while it looks like it may be just shy of that mark, the Korean manufacturer is going to get very close. Right now, Samsung says it has sold 9.3 million Galaxy S Android devices, with close to 2 million of those being in South Korea alone.
Selling equally well, given its category, is the Galaxy Tab Android tablet. While even I was skeptical of just how well it would sell, it seems that it’s moving at a decent pace. However, Samsung might have some competition to look forward to in Motorola, who’s convinced that its Honeycomb-based Android tablet will be superior to the Apple iPad. We’ll have to wait and see after the announcement is made at CES 2011.
