HP is finally showing the world what Palm has been up to with their webOS, and we’re coming to you live from San Francisco to see if the webOS tablets (the Opal and Topaz) are as amazing as we’ve made them out to be in the months leading up to this event. There’s a chance we’ll also see a new webOS-powered smartphone, new Touchstone wireless dock technologies, and possibly even some sort of Palm-backed cloud service to help keep all your webOS devices synced up and ready to rock.
The Opal and Topaz webOS tablets are headed to AT&T and Verizon, with a WiFi-only version coming down the pipeline at some point. Coming off the leaks that hinted at snazzy, new Touchstone tech on the horizon, we’ll likely also see a new Touchstone dock to help you manage all your pictures, videos, music, etc. sans wires and cables.
The Palm Pre 2 could also make its debut at the webOS event in San Francisco, but that’s really more wishful thinking than anything else. As is the speculation that Palm will unveil a new cloud service to help keep all webOS devices in sync via the cloud. Web-based backup and syncing? That would be nice.
We’ll be bringing you play-by-play coverage of the entire event, from unveiling to hands-on demos, so make sure you keep it locked to this post right here and we’ll do all our live-blogging in the box below.
Update: the rumor mill is saying we’ll see the tablet and it will be called the TouchPad and we should see a very thin smartphone as well. Looks like fun.
Update 2: A leaked HP webpage suggests we’ll see the Pre 3, TouchPad and something called the “Veer.” We have a good idea what two of those will be but let’s see what they have to show off.
Update 3: Show’s over, but here’s out liveblog transcript.

I hope HP shares the plans for a product roadmap, with the new Ipad coming out there will instantly be pressure on HP to innovate so this product launch is not a one hit wonder. |
9:54 Derek
9:54
| good point I’ll address that in a few when we sit down |
9:54
9:55
| Basically, I believe that the core app will be on all the platforms (Facebook, etc) |
9:55
9:55
| But even if the majority of the apps are cruddy, having more gives you a higher percentage of nailing something cool and innovative |
9:55
9:56
| So if only 2% of apps are good – 2% of 300,000 is more cool apps than 2% of 5,000 |
