Verizon just doesn’t seem to know what they are talking about when it comes to the availability of the much-anticipated HTC Thunderbolt. After a handful of rumored dates, all of which have been delayed, Big Red decided to send out a new flyer (not that Flyer), which states that the Thunderbolt is, “Now Available”.
This Thunderbolt fiasco is turning into a nightmare, and I have friends that have been waiting for this handset ever since they saw our coverage on the thing at CES. While we shouldn’t put too much faith in rumors, it’s hard not to, especially when so many people want to believe this handset is right around the corner. It may be just days away from launching, but something is holding it up.
We know that training for the sexy handset started in late January, but February came and went with nothing more than a rumored launch date that never materialized. Now we’re nearing the 2nd week of March, with tomorrow and the 24th marked as more rumored launch dates. While the flyer above looks to support the 10th as the launch date, we’re beginning to wonder if we’ll see it this any time this month.
Verizon promised that we’d see the handset land in the first half of the year, and the rumored dates have failed us every time. At this point, you may be looking at the Samsung Stealth or the LG Revolution before you can get your hands on the Thunderbolt. Hell, if you want the most powerful handset that’s been announced for Verizon this year, you’re not even looking at the three previously mentions handsets. You’re looking at the Droid Bionic.
So toy with us all you want Verizon, we’re not buying it. These slip ups happen, and I seriously hope this isn’t Verizon’s way of building hype for a handset, because they’re likely losing some people along the way.
If you’ve been waiting for the Thunderbolt, and we see the Stealth or Revolution hit the market first, will you happily grab either of them, or are you willing to wait as long it takes?
If there’s any good news to come out of this flyer, it’s that the Droid Incredible’s price will be cut in half.
