Next time you’re going to visit the capital of the U.S. you will be able to pay for the parking with nothing but your phone. Parkmobile scored a deal with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to allow residents, workers and visitors to pay for parking at all of the approximately 17,000 on-street metered spaces throughout the District of Columbia.

The popular mobile parking payment service provider we covered for quite a few times in the past already enables pay by phone service in the Foggy Bottom, Georgetown Hospital and Ballpark areas and will start adding locations around the District starting in June. Drivers can sign up at Parkmobile’s website from where they can also download a mobile app. Once registered, customers can use the mobile app, the internet, or a phone call to pay for parking. The parking transactions appear in real time on the handheld devices used by Parking Enforcement Officers.

Parkmobile’s mobile apps are available for multiple platforms, including iOS, Android and Blackberry. iPhone version is the most powerful one, relying on GPS to find nearby parking spots and allowing users to save up to 5 favorite zones and license plates. This feature will also be added to Android and BlackBerry apps in the near future…
