Samsung Galaxy S II launching in 120 countries this week

The powerful successor to the Samsung Galaxy S, the Galaxy S II, will be launching in 120 countries this week starting with Korea. The manufacturer is hoping to sell even more of the Galaxy S II than it did the original Galaxy S and its variants. In fact, it’s hoping to sell 10 million units after an international launch – something that will definitely help with those numbers.

We got our first hands on of the Galaxy S II in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress, and it was impressive. It packs a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and it is extremely thin at just 8.49mm. Not only is it thinner and faster, but Samsung says that it is more efficient on battery life than its predecessor.

AFP reports:

Shin said the firm would also unveil the new version of its Galaxy Tab tablet computer in July, predicting its overall tablet computer sales would be five times bigger this year than in 2010.

The Suwon-based firm is embroiled in a legal battle with Apple, which in a US lawsuit has accused Samsung of “slavishly” copying the design and technologies of its market-leading iPhone and iPad.

Samsung denied the accusation and days later filed lawsuits against Apple in South Korea, Japan and Germany alleging 10 patent infringements.

Shin vowed to “respond resolutely” to Apple’s charges and said the company would “deal with the matter more actively”.

Many Android users, like myself, are anxiously awaiting the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 inch models, the successors to the original Galaxy Tab slate computer. A formidable iPad challenger from Android has yet to come, but the coming Samsung tablets seem very promising from what we’ve seen at MWC and CTIA so far.

If you’re looking to pick one of these up in the States, it shouldn’t be much longer. Official release dates and pricing hasn’t been announced, but since the international launch is nigh, it should be any day now.
