T-Mobile is running a special promotion for Father’s Day (June 18th) whereby if you sign up for a 2 year contract you’ll get $10 credit towards your account every month for 12 months. Said $10 essentially makes the 200 MB dataplan you’re required to purchase essentially free. Want more data? No problem, you can sign up for a larger data allowance and you’ll still get that $10 shaved off your monthly bill. Now remember, unlike AT&T and Verizon, T-Mobile doesn’t charge you when you go over your monthly data limit. Instead they’ll slow down your speeds, which is something that’s fine for most people who use their smartphone for basic tasks such as checking email, Facebook, or Twitter. This deal is open to new customers and existing customers who are 18 months or more into their contract. Oh and another thing, this promotion isn’t limited to just smartphones. You can pickup a tablet too or one of T-Mobile’s new 42 Mbps HSPA+ modems for your laptop and still receive that $10 off for 12 months.
Do your dad a favor and tell him to sign up for this. Once he gets a taste of the things he’ll be able to do thanks to having a constant internet connection available to him at his disposal, he’ll most certainly be hooked to smartphones and the mobile industry in general. Those 200 MB can also go a long way if you install Opera Mini on his device, and we’re hoping that the rumors of a fully offline Google Maps coming to Android this summer are going to be true.
We’re curious to know, if you’re a T-Mobile customer who has gone over your data limit and you’ve been throttled, just how slow do they make your internet? Do they kick you off 3G all together and force you on EDGE, or do you still get 3G, but instead get only a certain amount of Mbps? Speed tests would be appreciated.
