Motorola announced a new entry-level Android smartphone for heavy texters – XT316. The device, which obviously builds on top of the Spice XT300 model, is set to hit Hong Kong, Taiwan and Latin America anytime now, with Europe and Asia to follow later in the summer. In Latin America it will be marketed as Motorola SPICE Key, whereas Europeans will know it as Motorola FIRE.
Specs wise, the XT316 sports a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, compass, accelerometer, light and proximity sensors, 3.5mm headset hack and a microSD memory card slot. In addition, it also comes with the so called Moto Switch user interface that allows users to easily switch from a business-centric to friends-centric mode.
Finally it’s worth adding that the XT316 which will hit Taiwan and Hong Kong will run Android 2.2 Froyo (upgradable to Gingerbread), while the version of the smartphone to be sold in Latin America and Europe will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of box.
