Windows Phone Mango apps can be submitted in August

It looks like we can expect Windows Phone Mango to drop pretty soon, as Microsoft is telling developers that they can start submitting Windows Phone Mango apps in August. Could a September software update be in the cards?

On its blog, Microsoft briefly mentioned that developers should start to polish up their Mango apps to be submitted. I’m really looking forward to the new crop of apps because these will be able to do things like access the camera, which could make video-calling apps like Skype possible.

The company is also rolling out a new developer App Hub and this includes multiple new features for app makers including geographic expansion, new private distribution options and enhanced application management. While the consumer uptake of Windows Phone may not be stellar yet, there are now more than 25,000 apps in the marketplace and I expect that number to increase as the better tools roll out.

It’s still not going to be an easy road ahead for Microsoft but Windows Phone Mango does represent a lot of promise for consumers and developers.
