Nokia’s Ovi Store surpasses 50,000 apps

Nokia’s Ovi Store now has more than 50,000 apps in the catalog, with more than 6.5 million downloads per day taking place. That’s up from the previous count of 48,000 apps and 6 million daily downloads.

Despite the solid growth, the Finnish company has a lot of catching up to do to reach the heights of Apple’s AppStore and Google’s Android Market, if that’s part of the plan at all. We all know Nokia has selected Windows Phone 7 as its main platform for the future and now it’s up to Microsoft to drive the developers’ interest.

Nokia also reiterated its plans for Qt-based apps, which can run on its Symbian and MeeGo phones and soon even on feature phones. The company said that for developers, this means “a dramatic increase in the distribution and monetization opportunities for Qt apps.” The only downside of Qt is that for some reason it’s not available for Windows Phone platform…
