HP TouchPad liquidation begins, starts at a paltry $99

hp-touchpad-liquidation

You never really wanted an HP TouchPad. Or maybe you did, but it was just too damn expensive, given other options. Well, now the decision has just been made for you. Since HP announced that webOS is pretty much dead and that it will no longer be making any hardware to support the platform, something has to be done about the army of TouchPad tablets floating around. For the 16GB, you can now expect to pay about $99, and for the 32GB TouchPad, you’ll fork over just $149.

HP sent a memo to its partners and affiliates:

HP will be lowering the price of the TouchPad beginning Saturday 8/20/11. This is the lowest price ever for the TouchPad so please post it as soon as it goes live.

16GB TouchPad- $99; 32GB TouchPad – $149

You know what’s an even better deal? Not buying them at all–just saying. Why even spend a dollar on a piece of hardware whose software isn’t going to be updated anymore, and for which new apps will not be created nor updated?

The only reason you’d buy an HP TouchPad now is to own a piece of history–a very brief and disappointing history, but some sad bit of history nonetheless.

$99 is a good deal for a decent tablet which could be used just for the sake of surfing the internet on your couch. I am sure Android tablets in this price range will have despicable hardware.

Agreed. 149 for a decent tablet with 32 gb that can surf the web well and play videos in a decent form factor is a bargain. At that price, the concerns about software updates and app ecosystem go away. For me, at least.

I agree with your premise, but no support for updates is terrifying. I’m staying far far away.

The question you should be asking is can you put Android on it?

  • RichKidFresh

Two hours and six miles of walking. Im am glad to say I got the last one:-) Now I am patiently waiting on some Android goodness.

Google Music works exceptionaly well on this thing.

Shame the same deals are not available on the Uk. But then again, I’m holding out for the HP Pre 3 price to drop over here – it was only just released 4 days ago, SAD state of affairs, but If I can get it cheap, I’m laughing. I need a spare handset and this will do very nicely.
