iPhone 5 concept includes laser keyboard, holographic projection, unicorns

iPhone-5-lasers

While we’re getting closer to a proper iPhone 5 launch, and rough specs are starting to coalesce, there’s still very little that’s firm. Enter the design firm Aatma Studio, which has cooked up this sweet little concept video of how some pretty far-out features might look on the next iPhone. Okay, maybe the iPhone after that. First off, it’s got a ridiculously slim design and an edge-to-edge display. Secondly, the concept is host to a projected laser keyboard, so you could have a full, resizable keyboard on any surface, complete with brightness adjustment. Finally, the concept also includes a holographic projector, so you could watch large videos even without a dedicated surface to project onto.

While stuff like built-in laser keyboards, edge-to-edge displays, and even holographic projection are all individually within the realm of possibility, cramming them all into one handset that slim is about as likely as getting free delivery by unicorn with your iPhone 5 order. Still, these are cool features, and it’s fun to think about how soon we can realistically expect these kinds of features. What do you guys think – ten years? Twenty?

    crap is the right word.

  • Jon_sage

    Impossible

  • Haha

we probably have to wait at least 5years to get that iphone 5..

I have a GS 90 from Nokia. Its the next best thing to a smart phone. Im on straight talk from WalMart. $45 unlimitied everything, even 411 free. I hope WalMart puts these carriers out of business. They are ripping people off. I was with Verizon for years and they just kept going up on rates. I would pay over $100 if i stayed with verizon and have this kind of plan. You cant beat it. They have a Droid coming now and it will be the same $45 a mth. everything. In a few years I think they will have all the phones you want. You gota love it.

    • Sales Manager

      straight
talk does not have the iphone so it is crap. you should pay whatever people
charge for the privilege of using the glorious iphone

      even if
      it is 300-600 per month

      the man
living on the street with an iphone in hand is far richer and better off than
anyone living in a house without an iphone

      • Wakeboarder3545

        Well said, I strongly agree

      • Underqwertyuiop

I sincerely hope you’re kidding, as that’s one of the most elitist comments I’ve had the displeasure of reading in recent memory. No one should have to pay more than they should for a bloody phone.

Especially when the iPhone is just.. not that great of a phone. Cheap tech for a high price. Apple really has you wrapped around it’s little finger.

          That is all!

  • RogueAgent

So…. the thickness is just plain dumb…. If you put it in your pocket you’d crack it in half.. everyone drops their phone at least once.  As far as the projected keyboard I can see that happening but at what sacrifice to battery life?  And how well would it work on a non-matte surface?  The “hologram” screen will not be in the making for MANY years!  The only way they can do anything like that now is by projecting an image on smoke/water vapor.  @Truthman, your walmart service is being brought to you by T-Mobile… who is being bought out by ATT.. not sure how long those prices will stay like that and of coarse your already iffy service :-P

  • Sales Manager

this is the coolest thing in the world so awesome more cooler than con… i thought they would sell 8 billion iphones but after seeing this i think they will have 20 billion phone orders on day one.

  • Ciromab

    is this hologram for real

    • Johnrothwell

Is this the I.Q of the average iPhone user? It’s a concept and not real!!!!!! dummy’s

      You spaz

  • Oddert

Eye right. Wake up you apple fan-boys! This sort of stuff wont be around for at least 15 years. Glassless 3D TV’s are not even out yet, and before anyone mentions innovating, apple haven’t come up with any new amazing innovations for years.

    • Rach

Actually holographic tv and laser keyboards exist already. The problem is that new technology like that is very expensive. So it isn’t likely that it will be in the next iphone

      • Oddert

The holographic screen only works with smoke, witch is inconvenient in a cafe. As for the keyboard, I know of said projected keyboard but you need a big device for it and two decent cammeras for finger tracking. Anyhow this tech is still along way off and is unlikely to come about any time soon. Also it would not comply with apple’s recent tactics of suing rather than innovating.

        • John Philips

So you were wrong and Rach was right then?! Ps… iPhone already has two decent cameras – they just need moving.

Don’t be naive though, Apple are continually innovating – the iPhone itself was one of the biggest innovations in modern history. (Or are you going to argue that the wheel wasn’t an innovation because the person who used it didn’t make the rock that it was comprised of….)

Stop hating Apple – we’re going to start thinking you are Bill Gates…

      • Moores504

no laser keyboards are holographs arent but they are working on it the best theyve done so far is heating plasma until it sparks in multiple different places making the form of a butter fly not even a detailed one just the outline and a few other basic shapes but japans working on it lol

        • Dfsdfdw

ya they do, they have the 3DS, which is full 3d with no glasses required, and they have the celluon magic cube laser keyboard for $169

  • Brandon Geary

If they EVER actually make that I will buy it I don’t care how much it costs.

  • Vman

The concept is very cool, however, they could easily replace the fantasy holograph with a projector (sony has done this to the video cams) and the laser keyboard could easily be incorporated by Apple; especially with their resources. Those two features alone would take over the phone market. But Apple being Apple this probably won’t be available until the iPhone 10.

how does the holograph work if the light isn’t projecting onto anything? I’m so confused … what stops the light from just extending into the air….Holographs usually project onto a surface, glass, white board….this is def, a concept.

Are you seriously questioning how it works?! It’s a bloody concept… it isn’t real, a design company mocked up an idea that they thought would be great if it happened – a bit like moller skycars (google them)

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6YRMP4FPEBP4ELETGQXMMDST7I Fauzy

Only difference is the Moller Skycars worked … kinda … … well they at least got off the ground, no pun intended.

I’m making a video with a fake Iphone too. IT’s going to have features like: turning lead into gold! Multidimensional teleportation, and a coffee maker. It’s even THINNER than the phone in the video. And JUST as real.

Dont get me wrong, I love apple products but this video to me is hard to believe.
The older mouse and keyboard, whats up with that. They did not come with that computer. How stupid do they think we are?

  • Clinton Macleod

Don’t you love it when people see the word “Concept” and still think it’s the real thing?

  • David Wilson

I had an actual argument with my girlfriend because she thought this was real…

  • Reillycurran

i personally can see this as an apple product. it certainly has the signature 1 up from its predecessor i mean a hologram! if this is a fake it is one elaborate fake

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6YRMP4FPEBP4ELETGQXMMDST7I Fauzy

If this is a fake …. IF?!?  It is fake!!  They make no effort to hide that it’s fake, It’s a concept!!

  • Johnrothwell

Concept ……..Dummy. It’s not real a little like Santa and the Tooth fairy

    • Guest

Nothing like either of those…dummy! There’s a vast difference between concept and fairytale….

  • Tonytonytony

why is it not real??? both laser project keyboard and holographic projection technology exist today (google it) so why is so impossible that these will be in the phone in the future?

That I saw before and yes it is real. Also, Japan and China are already selling those cubes that make anything holographic. you can plug it in the iphone actually….so who knows maybe this person had the little cube for this video somewhere…

  • Joey

thing is , if you can manipulate a hologram of a keyboard, why not get rid of the screen and just make it one big fat hologram projector with all the computing power you need? you wanna watch a movie? enlarge the screen. Maybe even make two keyboards and split the screen so multiple people can use it? we got the technology, man, this aint impossible.

People see the Dreamoc and for some unfathomable reason consider the kind of floating in mid air hologram shown in the concept video possible. They’re two completely different things, the Dreamoc is a clever use of mirrors, prisms and projectors to make it appear as if a 3d image is floating in air inside the device, but it’s essentially an optical illusion. It is not even remotely possible to project an image into thin air as shown in the video.

i just want to say that the laser keyboard and holographic projection are both fake. i know this because i saw the actual thing with my own eyes. Honestly, I do not know if the phone was the new iphone 5 though. I just know that one phone does have these features and you don’t have to wait twenty or ten years. Holograms and stuff like this are coming out soon. This summer they are starting to produce and sell the new holographic T.V.!!!! These t.v.’s are being made due to the eye strain and seizures 3d tv’s can give the average human. I just thought that is interesting to know.

    • Dear god….

No you didn’t see it with your own eyes – stop with the BS. We all know that they are fake, I’ll let you in on a little secret…. IT IS A CONCEPT…. They never at any point claimed it was real, nor did they hide the fact that it was a concept (and if you don’t know what a word means, look it up before you comment)! They’ve done this to show that they are a clever, creative agency and in the process have drummed themselves some publicity up.

Also, holographic televisions et al. are NOT being produced due to eye strain and seizures – they’re being made because they’ll sell like hot cakes, not to mention the far-reaching implications that it would make on science / medicine – imagine being able to see a persons body in 3D floating next to them so you can see exactly what you are doing whilst performing a medical procedure?!…

The level of IQ in some of these posts has me in a quandary… should I worry about the survival of the human race due to stupidity or should I be grateful that when the day comes where we’ve screwed this planet up past the point of no return, the minimum IQ level required for boarding the shuttle will mean there are more seats for the rest of us?! Unnatural natural selection if you will….!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6YRMP4FPEBP4ELETGQXMMDST7I Fauzy

“should I worry about the survival of the human race due to stupidity”  Short answer, yes.  With IQ levels dropping at the rate they are, we won’t have the capability yet to leave the earth permanently when the day comes that we’ve screwed it up beyond repair.

  • Holly_parker2009

so dot put bullshit on facebook and every where else if u are not going to do it

  • Chris

I just need to ask this question. The Iphone 5 was announced today. They did not mention anything about a holographic device being in it. But on the other hand. Mabey its a surprise. How dont we know if they made it. The Iphone 5 is not out yet so in this case the only one with the model is apple themselves. So all of you just stfu and make sure you have the proof before you judge something.

  • Oberiamalvi

nice invention………… i like it very much.
