Good news for the old geezers, myself included. If you’re like me, you like playing the retro games on today’s mobile phones. R-Type is one such title that was released back in 1987, which is two years before the fall of the Berlin Wall. In other words, it’s an ancient game that was released on a number of platforms, including the arcade cabinet, Amiga, Atari, Amstrad, Commodore 64 and the PC. And now it’s heading to the Android community, with September 12th set as a landing date.
Developer DotEmu will launch the game, promising to deliver improved graphics along with a dose of nostalgia.
In the game, you pilot the R-9a Arrowhead spacecraft, fighting an alien invasion. Along the way, you’ll be able to pickup a number of items and power-ups, and also use the popular “charge shot.”
There are a total of 8 levels, each ending with a big boss. The social element will also be included, allowing you to brag about your top score via OpenFeint… Can’t wait! 🙂
