If you have no interest in Apple, the iPhone or iOS, I suggest you don’t go online, turn on the television or pick up a newspaper over the next few days because the iPhone announcement is going to dominate the news. Apple is preparing to show off its next-generation iPhone and iOS 5 and you can be sure it will be a major deal.
In our preview, we talked about what to expect. The next iPhone could have the iPhone 4 form factor with a dual-core processor, more RAM and an 8-megapixel shooter to augment the iOS software. Other rumors suggest that we could also see an 8 GB low-end model and there’s even the slight chance that Sprint is paying Apple tens of billions to get an exclusive on the iPhone 5, which will have WiMax and a radical body redesign.
Apple’s iOS 5 has already been shown off but we’re expecting to see a strong-emphasis on the voice-controlled Assistant, which will use Siri technology and it has already been called “world-changing.” It remains to be seen if it can live up to that hype but at the very least, the Assistant feature should make using the next iPhone a much easier experience.
Thankfully, the time for speculation is pretty much over, as Apple will reveal all around 10 a.m. PST. We’ll be holding a massive meta-live blog where we condense all the live blogs and we really encourage you to join in. It’s not just going to be about telling you the whats, wheres and how much, as it will be quite interactive and fun. Join us.
