Finally, after waiting for well over a year, customers of Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G will receive their fix of Gingerbread (Android 2.3). The Now Network announced on its Twitter page that users can expect the update to start rolling out over-the-air sometime today.
The update to Gingerbread will add some much-needed improvements. This version of the Android software improves download management through the Downloads application, offering easy access to any file downloaded from the browser, email or other applications. It also fixes the device’s ability to stream media through certain applications. This maintenance release will also improve the user experience by improving Bluetooth headset sound quality and addressing minor issues with the lock screen date and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync HTML tagging.
I must say this is the spitting definition of fragmentation. It is absolutely ridiculous that these poor Epic 4G customers waited for over a year to get what will be an out-dated version of the latest Android operating system as of December. Late software updates because of the carrier or manufacturer is the very root to what makes Google’s mobile OS such a disaster at times. Anyways, let us know if you received your update. If you haven’t received it yet, be sure to check by hitting Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates.
