Just in time for Black Friday, Amazon is bringing its Price Check app to Android, nearly a year later than its iPhone version. Hey, better late than never, right?

As you would expect, the Amazon Price Check app lets you go into a store and see what the price of that item would be on Amazon. You can search for prices in a variety of ways, as you can scan the barcode, take a picture of the object, type the name of the product or even use voice search. After signing into your Amazon account, you could also buy that product with just a few clicks.

“Consumers want a fast and convenient way to determine the best possible price available for a product,” said Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile, in a prepared statement. “Since Amazon is widely known for its vast selection and low prices, Price Check for iPhone quickly became one of our most popular apps following its release last November, which is why we’re excited to expand the app to the growing number of Amazon customers using Android phones.”

Oh boy, if retailers weren’t already pissed at Amazon, these types of apps will do nothing to change their mind. On the other side of thing, I find this to be a really good experience, as you can go into stores and get the look and feel of a product but also get the much-cheaper price from Amazon.

You can download the app from the Android Market here.

I find going into a store to look at an item just so you can buy it online, unethical. Stores have to pay for the space for that item to be displayed on that shelf and you shouldn’t expect them to have to compete with a web store who has a fraction of the overhead cost. Support your stores or eventually there will be no more stores to go into to see if you like the product before you buy.

I hear your point and I do think eventually, Amazon will open “experience” retail stores. I still tend to buy something in local stores, even if I use the price checker to get something else cheaper from Amazon
