We know Verizon Wireless is preparing for a hot Christmas shopping season with its portfolio including such high-end devices as Motorola DROID RAZR, HTC Rezound and DROID Nexus Galaxy. However that doesn’t mean the Big Red carrier has forgotten its prepaid customers — they’ve unveiled a new device called LG Extravert for folks who don’t want long-term commitments with mobile operators.

The new device is a mid-range feature phone made for heavy texters. It comes with a 2.8-inch WQVGA (240×400 pixels) touchscreen, side-sliding QWERTY keyboard, 2-megapixel camera that can take both photos and videos, 1X data (no EV-DO), Bluetooth 3.0, 3.5mm headset jack, media player, web browser, 1000mAh battery and a microSD memory card slot. In addition, LG’s own software supports multiple homescreens, allowing users to quickly access key phone functions and popular social networking services.

Verizon is asking $109.99 for the LG Extravert, though we’re hearing it will be even more affordable through third-party phone retailers like Walmart…

Nah. Seriously this offer can only be considered to be a ‘token’ offer by Verizon. $100 for a feature phone is seriously too much. And I cannot claim much confidence in the full retail price – $209…no way! I understand that carriers subsidize their handsets, and it stands to reason that Verizon would be able to subsidize quite heavily because of it’s size, and heavy cost of plans (to compromise for the initial handset discount). But in the face of tracfone’s handset cost, which is much cheaper, complimented by much cheaper minute to minute rates, Verizon’s offering seems a little greedy.

Well, VZW does have the most reliable wireless network service and when you are purchasing a new phone sometimes you have to put the price last.. I mean economically speaking if its not within your budget then move on, but its always that theory of quality over quantity? There are thousands of competitors and no service has yet to top VERIZON so I will stick by them until the end, and I am a proud owner of the lg extravert…  :)

    Dusan is an idiot!
I care about my time but just as much as the next person but I don’t require a smartphone to do it. Just more Verizon “basic phone” garbage to paint us non-smartphone users into a corner and to try and force our hand into upgrading.
