Great news for you owners of the LG Optimus family of handsets. The South Korea-based manufacturer today confirmed that all of its high-end smartphones which were introduced this year (the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE) will get the bump to the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0
The company also took it one step further when addressing the owners of other LG devices on its Facebook page:
“We are also continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the ICS OS available on as many LG smartphones as possible. In December this year, the forthcoming upgrade schedule and additional specific models for the ICS OS upgrade will be posted on our LG Mobile Global Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LGMobile) and on our local LG websites. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.”
This is pretty cool, LG is clearly looking to win some approval from its current customer base. The company has to shed its reputation as a manufacturer who makes decent handsets that aren’t supported when it comes to the latest firmware updates. This announcement is one step forward in cleaning up its image compared to HTC, Samsung, and Motorola. LG looks to be ending the year on a positive note with this news and its special event on December 1st. Let’s all hope they stick to this new vision and drive.
