Google Goggles is a visual search app that’ll help you translate the text on a menu, identify an unknown painting and find the best prices for that HDTV you want to buy. The Android version of the app just got an update to version 1.7 which makes scanning, searching and retrieving information easier than before.
To improve its visual search, Google added a new continuous mode which uses your camera to scan your environment continuously and find items around you. You don’t have to stop and take a snapshot, all the recognition is done on the fly. If you don’t like this real-time processing, you can skip continuous mode and choose to take a regular snapshot instead.
Also new to Google Goggles is improved text recognition. This feature lets you capture a small piece of text that you are reading, and Google will use it to identify the full text document. It’s convenient for those who don’t want to fuss with grabbing a picture of the entire page. Lastly, Google improved the suggestions feature of the app. Starting with Goggles 1.4, you could add meaningful suggestions when a search result was incorrect. Now these suggestions are added immediately to the app and can affect the search results for the next person who uses Goggles.
