Galaxy S25 gets two Galaxy AI features that were missing from its One UI 8.5 update

Samsung has delivered two Galaxy AI features to the Galaxy S25 series that users expected to see in the phone’s One UI 8.5 update but were notably absent. The features – Priority Notifications and File Summaries – arrive through a software update that also includes the June 2026 security patch.

The update’s unusually large size for a security patch now makes sense, as it includes functionality that first debuted on the newer Galaxy S26 series. This move addresses disappointment from Galaxy S25 users who felt left out when these AI-powered tools didn’t arrive with the stable One UI 8.5 release.

Samsung’s decision to backport these features reflects the company’s broader strategy of extending Galaxy AI capabilities across its device lineup, rather than keeping them exclusive to newer models. This approach helps maintain value for existing customers while building anticipation for future releases.

The two new features offer practical improvements to daily phone usage. Priority Notifications analyzes incoming alerts and automatically places the most important ones at the top of the notification list. This AI-driven sorting helps users spot critical messages and calls without scrolling through less urgent notifications from apps and services.

File Summaries takes a different approach to productivity by generating quick overviews of PDF and TXT documents. The feature was reported to help users understand file contents without opening and reading through entire documents, making file management more efficient.

The timing of this update is significant for Samsung’s Galaxy AI strategy. By bringing Galaxy S26 features to the S25 series, Samsung demonstrates its commitment to supporting devices beyond their initial launch window. This practice could influence customer loyalty and upgrade decisions, as buyers know their phones will continue receiving new capabilities.

Samsung’s approach also reflects broader industry trends where AI features are becoming key differentiators in the smartphone market. Companies are racing to add smart functionality that makes devices more helpful in daily tasks, from managing communications to processing documents.

The update’s delivery method – through a security patch rather than a major OS update – shows how Samsung is becoming more agile with feature rollouts. This strategy allows the company to respond to user feedback and competitive pressure more quickly than traditional annual update cycles would permit.
