Android 4.0.2 rolling out to GSM Samsung Galaxy Nexus phones

Rocking a GSM Galaxy Nexus and want the Android 4.0.2 love that Verizon’s version is sporting today? Well, it looks like the official roll-out of the small update has begun, as owners of the device have begun receiving it. The update is rather small and doesn’t provide much along the way but we’re glad Google didn’t wait long to push the latest version out to GSM handsets.

The 8.7MB update contains “important bug fixes” and should be rolling out to phones very soon. That said, if you’ve decided to pull the trigger and root your Galaxy Nexus, you may want to wait it out until a pre-rooted version hits the net, which usually only takes a day or two. If you’re still rocking an untouched Galaxy Nexus, go to Settings>About Phone> System Updates to see if the update is available for your handset right now.

Even though we were running a custom ROM on the GSM unit we have, the “volume bug-fixing” update still pushed over the air to the device and we have yet to get a notification of 4.0.2 yet. In either case, we’ll probably be waiting it out until a rooted version comes out.

If you haven’t received the update, don’t worry too much, as 4.0.2 has already been superseded by 4.0.3. Luckily, it won’t take too long before that version begins to roll out to handsets, either.
