Google just released two new ads on YouTube showing off some pretty cool features of Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich on the Galaxy Nexus, as one video shows off Hangouts and the other ICS’s facial security. In the first video Hangouts is front and center; the video service enables live video chat with up to 10 people at once using the Galaxy Nexus’ front-facing camera.
In the second video, a child is shown trying to unlock his father’s Galaxy Nexus with the phones’ front-facing camera. I have to say facial-recognition is the handset’s most gimmicky feature because it isn’t totally secure. Speaking from experience I’ve been testing this feature on Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus and found you can unlock the phone with just a picture. Seriously, I took a similar picture of myself on my Nexus S 4G, then showed the pic to the Galaxy Nexus and it unlocked.
That said, the Galaxy Nexus (no matter the carrier) is a kick-ass phone, and it’s the best handset on the market in my honest opinion. Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) is an impressive OS with incredible polish compared to all its processors, and if you weren’t on-board with the OS before, you’d definitely have to consider it now.
