Just as we reported, China Telecom is preparing to launch its MVNO in the UK, marking the first time a Chinese operator has launched MVNO services outside of its domestic market.
China’s largest fixed-line network and third-largest mobile operator will use Everything Everywhere’s network to provide services in Chinese languages, as well as international calls back to China and services for callers in China to contact mobile users in the UK.
According to the company’s Yan Ou (Managing Director of China Telecom Europe), there’s is a real gap in the market for the provision of tailored mobile services and competitive tariffs aimed at the growing Chinese population in the UK.
The rumor is that if everything goes as planned, China Telecom will then expand to other European markets, again targeting the local Chinese population with affordable services. We’ll see how that goes…
