You’re out and about and you need to respond to an urgent message, but you really don’t want to be bothered hunting and pecking on your phone’s screen. What do you do? One2Touch is looking to solve your problem with the creation of an NFC enabled keyboard that doesn’t need batteries to work, nor any cables. How exactly do they do it? I’m still trying to figure that out since I’m assuming the NFC does nothing more than initiate a Bluetooth connection, and Bluetooth requires power, so … there’s got to be some magic inside this thing. The folks at NFC World say that there’s a small battery inside the One2Touch that should last for three years, but the folks who make the One2Touch explicitly say in their press release that there’s no battery inside their product. Anyway, when is this thing going go to come out and how much is it going to cost? You’re looking at spending roughly $65 when it lands in May in Japan, and One2Touch says they’re currently looking for partners to bring the device out to Europe and America.

Should you buy it? For $65, you’d have to be stark mad. For that amount of money you can get an Apple Wireless Keyboard, which not only types better than this squishy nonsense, but also works with any Bluetooth enabled device, and you can even replace the batteries so you don’t have to throw out your One2Touch once the three year battery kicks the bucket. Besides, with each successive release of Android and iOS the software keyboards are getting better and better, and at some point in the future that isn’t even going to matter since we’ll all be dictating long messages to our smartphones while walking down the street.

What say you, is this floppy keyboard a flop or does it have potential?

The article states “no battery charging”, NOT “no battery”.

The bit where they say “No battery” is in reference to no removable battery, shit PR.
