Fido's LG Optimus 2X gets Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update

While Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus 2X has been around for quite some time now (though not for too long), it’s only now that we’re seeing it hitting the users of Canada’s Fido network. The drill is usual – before pushing the update to its users, mobile operators are thoroughly testing it to make sure everything works properly. So Fido obviously completed its tests for the Optimus 2X firmware and made it ready for download.

Once updated, your LG smartphone will run Android 2.3.4 (up from 2.2), bringing many new features to the mix, including improved text selection and copy/paste, better download management, UI refinements, internet calling and so on.

Of course, before proceeding – make sure your smartphone is fully charged and that you’re connected to a fast Wi-Fi hotspot. Additionally, you may want to backup key data, just in case something (God forbid) goes wrong. Then go to Settings, About phone and update from there. After some 10 minutes – you’ll be running Gingerbread. ;)

this information is wrong – there is no update for Fido Optimus – it is still on ver 2.2.2 – DO NOT BUY LG PHONE EVER. They are the slowest in updating their phones. Other phones are waiting for ICS and this phone doesn’t even have Gingerbread. Pathetic

YES THIS IS TRUE! I have the phone. There is no such an option as update phone in the about phone section for the Fido version. THIS IS CRAP! LG SUCKS

It came out last week, I am with Fido and have it on my phone right now.

I just called Fido and they have no knowledge of the Gingerbread Update and no ETA for release of the OS upgrade.
I really think that either this journalist needs to check his facts or Fido has to keep their Support workers in the loop in regards to the Optimus 2x Update. By now we should seriously have ICS but well… Fido Sucks. Their Data Plan is only 500 megs a month while other providers offer as much as 6 GB for the same or a similar price.
I am already regretting signing a contract with Fido. If a Fido employee reads this, get with the program Fido! If you announce something to the press make sure the Support staff have information regarding the press release.
