AT&T’s new U-verse App for iPad makes for a better viewing experience

AT&T U-verse for iPad app is now available in the AppStore, allowing users to connect their beloved tablets to their TV sets for an “even better viewing experience.” Seriously folks, this application is awesome and you will use it both when you’re watching TV and when you’re out of home.

For instance, you’ll be able to access to the extra content and information about the TV show you’re watching like series overview, episode synopsis, photos, cast and crew information, related TV shows and more. Then there’s a full-featured U-verse remote control with channel, guide, DVR, interactive app and on-demand controls, advanced search functionality, recommendations on what to watch with ratings and reviews, and the ability to share stuff with friends on Facebook.

On the other hand, when you’re not home, you can access the U-verse programming guide and DVR scheduling or watch TV shows and movies over any Wi-Fi connection. At the moment, there’s a library of popular content from STARZ, ENCORE, TBS, TNT, truTV, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, with more choices added on an ongoing basis.

    AT&T is falling behind the competition with their iPad app. Most iPad apps from competitors come with some sort of live TV streaming, so I’m not sure why its so difficult for AT&T. I use the DISH Remote Access app, which lets me stream any live channel that I can watch on TV to my iPad, along with many different on demand movies and shows from my subscription to premium movie channels. I can also watch anything that I’ve recorded on my 922 SlingLoaded DVR to my iPad. Of course, what good would this app be if I couldn’t use it everywhere? I can stream wherever I am using DISH’s TV Everywhere™ technology. I have a 3G iPad, and I stream everywhere whether I’m on my way to DISH where I work or on the light rail headed to school. One useful thing about the U-Verse iPad app is that you can use your iPad as a $500 remote. That’s about it though.
