AT&T customers in Muncie and Bloomington, Indiana and Bryan-College Station, Texas are getting an extra-special visit from the Easter Bunny this Sunday. In addition to the standard assortment of chocolate and Sunday brunch, AT&T customers in these three locales will be waking up to a super-fast LTE network. Of course, they will need an LTE-capable device in order to gain access to these data speeds, which cost a bit more than the customary Easter loot.
AT&T’s LTE network has seen data speeds faster than that of Verizon’s more-developed LTE network, though that is largely attributed to the fact that not many people are using AT&T’s network yet. As AT&T’s buildout of LTE continues, the amount of traffic utilizing LTE will grow, causing a bit of congestion on LTE towers. This doesn’t mean the networks will be slow by any stretch, and we fully expect AT&T’s LTE network will fall in the 7-15 mbps down, 3-7 mbps up range that customers on Verizon’s network currently experience.
These market additions bring AT&T’s total LTE footprint to 31 markets officially, though some of these locales haven’t fully lit up yet. AT&T hopes to have its LTE network fully implemented by the end of 2013, and they seem well on their way to completing that goal.
