Walmart has a plan to revamp its stores with a fancy Apple store-within-a-store idea. This concept has appeared at a Walmart store in Arkansas, just 20 minutes from the giant merchandiser’s home office. The new look could expand to Sam’s Club as well.
Design wise, the displays feature tall, double-sided, backlit graphics, a clean-looking wood table, live display products and under-table accessory storage with security glass. If you look at the picture above, you can clearly see that Walmart has sparingly given Apple products its own island separated from the rest of the electronics.
This will highlight all Apple products a lot better than what’s happening in local Walmart’s today. Honestly, this is something Walmart should have done a long time ago, as competitors such as Best Buy and Target have already gone the rout of the Apple store-within-a-store idea. Now the behemoth Arkansas-based merchandiser is playing catch up.
Before the change, you’d go to a Walmart store and it would be hard to find Apple’s merchandise because its displays are just poorly constructed — their small, invisible and poorly maintained. Last year, I didn’t even consider buying my iPad 2 from Walmart because of their poor service, I went to Target instead. It’ll be interesting to see how they maintain these newer displays once they roll out nationwide.
