Okay, I’m convinced. The future is now! Either that or the world is really ending in 2012. Time will tell.
DDB Mexico has recently put on a campaign for Mexican internet company Terra, which gives dog owners the opportunity to trade in bags of dog poop to an electric receptacle that will grant the dog owner access to free WiFi.The trash receptacle weighs the amount of poop you put into the container, and translates the weight into a number of minutes the owner can access the park’s local WiFi, with the network cutely embedded as dog bones that stick out of the ground.
The campaign aims to encourage dog owners walking their animals in 10 city parks in Mexico City to clean up after their animals, something many of them apparently aren’t doing. The incentive is free WiFi, which we assume people are taking advantage of on their smartphone or Galaxy Note, since I don’t know too many people (present company excluded) who carry a laptop or an iPad around while taking the dog outside to do its business. Apparently this is a big deal in Mexico City, as people are always carrying their laptops and tablets around searching for WiFi for their internet needs, according to the following promotional video.
Seriously. Trading poop for WiFi. What on earth will they think of next?
