Facebook to drive mobile app installs through its App Center

Facebook is hoping to drive mobile app installs via its recently launched App Center. In a dedicated post, software engineer Brent Goldman explained how this scheme will work.

Before that he mentioned that Facebook is already integrated in a number of mobile apps, with 7 of the top 10 grossing iOS apps and 5 of the top 10 Android apps integrating the social network’s API(s).

As a Facebook users, you will be able to get new apps from either Facebook’s mobile app or when accessing the mobile website. In addition, Facebook’s desktop website will boast a “Send to Mobile” button, allowing you to quickly grab an app or two while cyber-schmoozing from your computer.

At the end of the blog post, Brent explains how developers can included their apps in the App Center: the application must take advantage of Facebook Login and they [developers] should create an app detail page in the Developer App. It doesn’t sound that hard and considering Facebook’s reach, we’re pretty confident the App Center will be populated with thousands of apps in no time at all…
