Verizon Wireless announced today that it is releasing the highly anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola DROID RAZR and the RAZR MAXX. The update will bring ICS features like Face Unlock, improved voice control and a new Direct Access Lock Screen, which lets customers open apps like the camera, messaging, and dialer right from the lock screen.

Besides Android 4.0, the update will also make the two smartphones Global Ready. Global ready phones support voice calling and data in 220 countries worldwide when customers sign up for an international plan. The pair will be the first 4G LTE smartphones to wear this badge.

DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX owners should keep an eye out for the update which is starting to hit handsets today. They also need to be patient as it may take time for the update to propagate to every RAZR and RAZR MAXX on Verizon’s network. An alert will let customers know when the update is ready to be installed on their handset.
