Welcome to another episode of “As the Patents Continue,” where Samsung remains in an ongoing battle with everyone’s favorite tech company, Apple. The richest company in the world has been obsessed with burying all things Android, focusing its rage mainly on Samsung, which the company believes is a copycat.
Let’s backtrack for a second. Not too long ago, Apple was granted an injunction to not only cease sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but the Galaxy Nexus. This decision caused Google to stop selling its flagship handset on its Google Play Store, adding a “Coming Soon” message instead. Then the search giant decided to buck the temporary ban by announcing its attention to begin selling and shipping the device within a few weeks. Just think, all of this is over some stupid Apple patent on unified search that was originally designed for Macs.
Now the Galaxy Nexus is able to carry on thanks to Samsung’s successful appeal for temporary relief (over the weekend), the estimated wait for a Galaxy Nexus has dropped from two and three weeks to a one to two week delivery window.
I know, much of this patent stuff sounds absolutely ridiculous, which prompted judge Posner to throughout a case like this between Apple and Motorola. Judge Posner went as far to questioning if we even needed patents in the first place. I happen to agree.
