New HTC handset rocks 1.7 GHz quad-core CPU according to new benchmarks

Thought HTC was done with the One line for now? Think again. It looks like that One XXL may be real after all. A new benchmark has popped up, showing a new HTC handset rocking a 1.7 GHz quad-core processor and Ice Cream Sandwich in tow. Will this be HTC’s flagship handset for the second half of the year?

The device is said to have a Tegra 3 processor inside with a higher clock speed than the quad-core chip inside existing  handsets today. This could be an upcoming version of the stupid fast Tegra 3’s, and might be one of the first handsets to ship with NVIDIA’s Icera solution. At the moment, only Qualcomm processors are used in LTE handsets, so the introduction of a Tegra 3 handset and LTE together would be a nice change. That said, even though NVIDIA’s roadmap is pretty clear, the CPU inside this monster could still change before it officially launches.

The display on the handset similar to the One X, in that it has a 720p resolution, but we’re still in the dark as to what size the screen will be. The 4.7 inch Super LCD 2 display on the HTC One X is really a dream to use, so we wouldn’t be terribly disappointed if the successor (if that’s what it is) left the display unchanged. Also, given that its Fingerprint reads as “cingular_us/evitareul/evitareul:4.0.4/IMM76D/83”, we can tell that the device is destined to run on AT&T’s network.

If this devices actually does turn into the device that we thought was fake, it will be interesting to see what chip-maker will be powering it. The previous rumor claimed that it was a Qualcomm chipset, so it just goes to show how much we don’t know.

Whatever this handset turns out to be, we’re definitely not complaining about the speed bump in processing power, especially if an NVIDIA processor is running the show. Here’s to hoping that HTC churn out another solid handset in the coming months.
