RIM has seen better days – from Canada’s most profitable company to numerous layoffs and stock plunging to record lows. That poses a question – what’s the future for the once proud BlackBerry maker? Bankers would love to see it acquired by a bigger rival, collecting their fees along the way, though it’s hard to justify such a purchase since RIM’s technology doesn’t count for much. Then again, there are still millions of BlackBerry addicts out there, most of whom are business users.
Among the companies that could be interested (or can afford) to acquire RIM are Facebook, Apple, Google, Amazon.com, Microsoft, Samsung, HTC and Nokia. However, will they “pull the trigger” is a whole different story. Honestly, I doubt any of the companies mentioned here need RIM.
