Juniper Research: Smart wireless accessory market to surpass sales of 100 million Units by 2017

The market for smart accessories is set to boom according to Juniper Research. Their latest report predicts that sales of these app enabled devices will rise from just over 10 million this year to over 100 million units by 2017, with services like payment processing, health and fitness monitoring leading the way.

The research company goes on saying that app-enabled devices will create new business processes in several sectors, potentially challenging existing players. Juniper points to several good examples like mobile payment processors Square and iZettle, as well as health and fitness monitoring devices that will lead to the adoption of mHealth services. Nike and Jawbone UP are also presented in good light for their various fitness apps and accessories.

Major retailers are noticing this trend and have started allocating shelf-space for smart wireless accessories, particularly in the US…

Finally, freemium and SaaS (software as a service) business models are said to be the emerging as the market for smart wireless accessories matures.
