Though iOS 6 may be adding offline turn-by-turn navigation when it launches next month, the service will likely be limited to the iPhone 4S/iPad 2 or newer models, leaving iPhone 4 and original iPad owners with the choice to upgrade or lose features. Fortunately for those not wanting to upgrade, Telenav has just released an update to its Scout iOS application, which brings offline turn-by-turn navigation as well as voice navigation commands to all iOS 4+ users.
The app itself is free, though the service will run you $10 per year, or $3 per month for those not looking for an annual commitment. Those with a reliable access to a data connection can continue to use the free data-based service with voice navigation commands; the $10 fee only applies to offline turn-by-turn navigation. While not the free navigation included in iOS 6, Scout for iOS provides a solid alternative for those of you with legacy devices.
