SingTel is launching NFC-based payments in Singapore in partnership with EZ-Link, who also introduced an EZ-Link NFC mobile application and the EZ-Link NFC website. Using the new service, SingTel customers will be able to make cashless payments by tapping supported handsets at NFC-enabled terminals at over 20,000 points of sale, including taxis, supermarkets and fast food chains.

There are no additional monthly subscription charges nor activation fees, and users willing to try it out will also get a waiver of the $5 administrative fee and receive $5 complimentary stored value in the ez-link purse if they sign up before September 30, 2012.

The free to download EZ-Link mobile application is available from the Google Play store for use on NFC-enabled Android mobile handsets. The app allows customers to check transaction history and balances, top-up the ez-link purse with any debit or credit card, and sign-up for Activate! – a complimentary EZ-Link programme that enables ez-link purse blocking and refunds of the ez-link purse in cases of the loss of phones.
