As expected, Apple has introduced the new dock connector for the iPhone 5. Many people have been speculating on the new connector, and now it’s finally here. And just like the lame marketing term of Retina display, the new connector is called Lightning.

The new connector is a whopping 80% smaller than the original, which is impressive. That said, the new connector is reverable via an adapter, so you won’t have to get completely new accessories. The smaller design of Lighting will also improve durability, which many people who have experienced the issues with the previous connector will be very thankful for.

We’ll have more on the new connector and the rest of the iPhone 5′s new features soon, so stay tuned!
