One of the major features of the iPhone 5 is its LTE connectivity, which brings the Apple smartphone on par with its Android counterparts. Carriers recognize the importance of LTE as a way to attract customers and are boosting their 4G network coverage before the iPhone 5 launch.

Verizon will flip the switch on 19 new markets and expand its coverage in handful of existing markets this week. The carrier offers the largest LTE network and has plans to rollout LTE to 400 markets across the country.

AT&T added nine new LTE markets last week and will light up the 4G service in other new markets this week. When all is said and done, AT&T will offer LTE in 72 markets when the iPhone 5 lands on Friday.
